Splish, Splash
This was my second white water rafting experience. The first time was in Costa Rica where I shared a raft with the instructor. Just the two of us. I lucked out in that one; I didn’t really have to do much! This experience was a little different. So many laughs and a great workout for these skinny arms.
The 3 roommates I lived with while studying abroad and another one our friends took a trip to Croatia for a long weekend. (One of the best parts of living in Europe is there are so many countries easily accesbile to you - another country for a long weekend just sounds funny to say out loud). We went through a student tour group called Bus2Alps, a popular organization that many study abroad kids were using for their weekend trips. One of the activities we chose to participate in was a white water rafting excursion down the Cetina River. This costed us around $64 USD.
7 of us were aboard the raft including the instructor who sat on the back. All of us, helmets on our heads, rubber boots to protect our feet, oars in our hands .. ready for some action packed fun. We started off slow and then soon enough it became more of a wild ride. We found ourselves ducking through lush overgrown trees and bracing ourselves for the next big drop along the way. I tried my best to stay dry but that wasn’t gunna happen. Between rafting under waterfalls and trying to maneuver in between rapids, I didn’t stand a chance. At one point amidst a sudden drop in the path, Liv almost fell out of the raft which, if you know her, you know this was a hilarious site to see! Floating along the river gave me a new appreciation for Croatia. It was nice change of scenery from the city streets of Florence allowing for some gratitude towards nature. When we were all finished and off the river, a traditional Croatian lunch was served and thank God because we worked up quite the appetite.
